Youth Football Team Drops 'Redskins' Name After Complaints

PC Insanity.
The 'Redskins' are now the 'Bears'

It is a flag football team

NYDN reported:
A Brooklyn youth football team is doing what the Washington Redskins has refused to do — change the name.

Bowing to complaints from parents, the Saint Francis Xavier Youth Sports League in Park Slope dropped what many consider a derogatory term to describe Native Americans.

The team, one of 32 in the flag football league, will now be called the Bears.

“It was causing controversy, and we’re more interested in having kids play,” said Stanley Lehman, one of the organizers of the league, which kicks off its season on Sept. 13 in Prospect Park.

Lehman said the team was new to the league this year and the Redskins name had been chosen by the coach, Edward Tully.

Lehman said he had hesitations about using the name, but Tully argued the name had a rich, long history in the NFL.

Racist! Of course-
Kris Franklin, whose 12-year-old son, Gabriel, was assigned to the team, was the first parent to complain, writing a post on the league’s website. Another parent chimed in calling the name “racist.”

“The idea of having to go there and say ‘Yeah team’ when it’s a team name that I find offensive is really troubling,” Franklin said Wednesday.

AP Reporter, State Dept. Spokesperson Marie Harf Get Into Testy Exchange Over Threat Posed By #ISIS

Matt Lee of the AP once again grills the State Dept. spokeswowan

During a press briefing on Wednesday, deputy State Department spokesperson Marie Harf condemned the beheading of American journalist James Foley by Islamic terrorists while adding that the threat posed by the terror group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) “is not about the United States and what we do.”

That comment led Associated Press reporter Matt Lee to ask if President Barack Obama's speech the day before -- in which he called for “a common effort to extract this cancer so that it does not spread” -- was a sign that “you’re actually going to do something” about terrorism.

"I think ISIL wants to make this about the United States and our actions,” Harf said before asserting that the president was actually calling for “countries in the region” to come together and “fight a shared threat, and this is not about us."

When she said the department has no evidence that any governments are supporting the group, Lee interrupted to ask why Obama stated: “From governments and peoples across the Middle East, … there has to be a clear rejection of this kind of nihilistic ideologies.”

“You’re reading something into that statement that I don’t think is actually there,” Harf replied.

“Well, I’m reading into this that you’re actually going to do something,” Lee fired back.

Obama Approval on Foreign Affairs 36%, Economy 35%

Video- Harry Reid Cracks Asian Jokes

What if a Republican had said this?

Everybody knows it would lead the Nightly News.

Harry Reid cracks a couple Asian-themed jokes at the Chamber of Commerce

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid drew laughter from an Asian audience Thursday with a pair of Asian-themed jokes.

“I don’t think you’re smarter than anybody else, but you’ve convinced a lot of us you are,” Reid, a Nevada Democrat, told the guffawing crowd at the Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce. Video of the remarks was recorded by the Republican opposition research group American Rising.

Later, before walking off stage, Reid quipped: “One problem that I’ve had today is keeping my Wongs straight.”

Flashback: Does anyone remember the firestorm after Sen. Alphonse D'Amato mocked Asians' accents on radio program a few years ago? He had to apologize, of course.

Reid's comments here will get a collective yawn,  just like the 'negro dialect' comment did

Romney: I Had My Turn, It's Paul Ryan's Turn to Run For President

Romney and Ryan talk about 2016 at the 9 minute mark here.
They were on with Megyn Kelly on FNC last night

Mitt Romney on Thursday night said that Rep. Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) should make his own run for president in 2016.

"He's very generous. But I had my turn. It's his turn now," Romney, the 2012 GOP nominee, said about his former vice presidential running mate.

Romney made the comments during a joint interview with Ryan on Fox News — their first since the failed campaign. The two later appeared at an event in Chicago, where Romney quizzed Ryan about his new book, "The Way Forward." During the interview, they were asked who would make a better president.

"I'll give it to him," Ryan said. Ryan has asserted he would like to see Romney run for president a third time, something the former Massachusetts governor has continually ruled out.

The interview also touched on President Obama's foreign policy and the events taking place in Ferguson, Mo.

Romney pointed to Hillary Clinton's disagreement with Obama about not arming Syrian rebels soon enough and her criticism that: “Great nations need organizing principles, and ‘don’t do stupid stuff’ is not an organizing principle."

Video- 2-Year-Old Boy Battling Brain Cancer Becomes Honorary Firefighter

Great story, great video.

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. - At 2 1/2 years old, Brayden Williams is getting his career started a little early. “We made him an honorary fire firefighter,” Assistant Fire Chief Jim Eden, of Lee’s Summit Fire Department, said.

Brayden knows how to dress like a firefighter and how to spray a hose. And he got to do what every firefighter loves to do.

“I'm going to ride on the fire truck,” Brayden said. Brayden’s mom, Julie, said Brayden loves fire trucks and has always wanted to get close to one.

“I posted on Brayden's Facebook that he loved fire trucks,” she said. “And I had so many offers, generous offers from people offering to set up days for him to do this.”

Because unlike many parents who have kids with a dream, Julie and her husband, Bret, just don’t know if they’ll see the day when their son is big enough to actually drive a fire truck.

“He has inoperable brain cancer and he's taking chemo"

The police and fire dept. came together to make this happen

"The juxtaposition of those images is troubling"

Cheney: 'I'm Absolutely Certain That Some Day, There Will Be Another Mass Casualty Attack Against the United States. Only Next Time, They'll Have Far Deadlier Weapons'.

Dick Cheney on FNC- Obama 'simply refuses to recognize the reality of the world we live in'

Former VP Dick Cheney criticized Obama for going golfing immediately after delivering a statement on the beheading of American journalist James Foley.

"Every day we find new evidence that he’d rather be on the golf course than he would be dealing with a crisis that’s developing rapidly in the Middle East," Cheney said during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

Cheney, one of Obama's fiercest critics, said Obama should have instead decided to end his vacation and engage the situation.

"I noticed the reaction of David Cameron, the British prime minister, when he found out that the individual who apparently did the beheading was speaking with a British accent. He wanted to immediately leave his vacation," Cheney said. "Of course, our president headed to the golf course as soon as he made his relatively, I thought, ineffective statement"

Will there be another attack on the U.S.? Cheney says yes and it will be far deadlier
Now, is there a great threat coming? Absolutely. Remember what happened on 9/11, when 19 guys armed with airline tickets and box cutters came here and killed 3,000 of us, took down the World Trade Center, blew a big hole in the Pentagon. I'm absolutely certain that some day, there will be another mass casualty attack against the United States. Only next time, they'll have far deadlier weapons.

Nonpartisan Government Watchdog- Pentagon BROKE THE LAW With Bergdahl Prisoner Swap

Lib media will yawn at this...

The Pentagon broke the law when it swapped Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, a prisoner in Afghanistan for five years, for five Taliban leaders, congressional investigators said Thursday.

WASHINGTON -(MYFOX/AP) The nonpartisan Government Accountability Office said the Defense Department failed to notify the relevant congressional committees at least 30 days in advance of the exchange — a clear violation of the law — and used $988,400 of a wartime account to make the transfer. The GAO also said the Pentagon's use of funds that hadn't been expressly appropriated violated the Anti-deficiency Act.

"In our view, the meaning of the (law) is clear and unambiguous," the GAO wrote to nine Republican senators, including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and various committees. "Section 8111 prohibits the use of 'funds appropriated or otherwise made available' in the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2014, to transfer any individual detained at Guantanamo Bay to the custody or control of a foreign entity' except in accordance" with the law.

The GAO said the relevant committees received phone calls from May 31 — the day of the transfer — to June 1, with written notification coming on June 2.

Five senior Taliban were released from detention at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo in exchange for Bergdahl, who had disappeared from his post in Paktika province in eastern Afghanistan on June 30, 2009. The five Taliban are to remain in Qatar for a year.

Missouri Governor Orders National Guard to Withdraw From Ferguson

National Guard was initially called in early Monday

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon ordered the National Guard to begin withdrawing from Ferguson, Mo., on Thursday after finding the situation on the ground "greatly improved."

State Highway Patrol and other law enforcement from St. Louis County will continue taking the lead maintaining security in the St. Louis suburb, Nixon said in a statement.

"The situation has greatly improved with fewer incidents of outside instigators interfering with peaceful protesters, and fewer acts of violence," the statement said.

The governor's office did not say specifically how long it would take to withdraw the National Gaurd, a process that will be coordinated with the Highway Patrol.

Ferguson has been roiled by protests since the police killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown on Aug. 9, but only six arrests were made on Wednesday night, one of the calmest since Brown's death. Dozens of arrests had been made the previous night. Police reported no shots fired or Molotov cocktails thrown, similar to the night before.
