Support for U.S. Air Strikes in Iraq Jumps From 45% to 54%

45% of voters say U.S. should arm the Kurds

ABC News
After splitting evenly two months ago, a majority of Americans now support U.S. air strikes in Iraq – but without additional credit to Barack Obama for ordering them.

Support for the military action against Sunni insurgents in Iraq is up by 9 percentage points since June, from 45 to 54 percent in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, while opposition is down by 7 points, to 39 percent. Yet views on Obama’s handling of the situation are essentially unchanged – 42 percent approve, while 51 percent disapprove.

On a third question, the public divides on providing arms and ammunition to the Kurdish military forces who are opposing the insurgents, with 45 percent in favor, 49 percent opposed.

The air strikes, which began nearly two weeks ago, represent the most significant U.S. military operations in Iraq since the withdrawal of the last ground troops in late 2011. Interviews for this survey, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates, were completed before the announcement that U.S. air strikes had assisted Iraqi and Kurdish forces in recapturing the Mosul Dam, a major strategic objective.

An increase in support for U.S. military action occurred among Democrats and political independents – up by 10 and 8 points, respectively, while remaining largely stable and higher among Republicans. Similarly, support has increased by 8 to 12 points among liberals, moderates and those who say they’re “somewhat” conservative, while holding steady among strong conservatives

ISIS Demanded $132M for Release of Journalist James Foley

NEW YORK - NBC News
The Islamic militant group ISIS at one time demanded a ransom of 100 million euros — $132 million — for the release of James Foley, the American journalist who was beheaded in an ISIS video made public earlier this week.

The figure was confirmed to NBC News on Thursday by a spokesman for GlobalPost, the news organization for which Foley was working when he was captured in Syria in 2012.

The U.S. military tried a mission to rescue Foley and other American hostages held in Syria by militants, but the mission failed because the hostages were not where planners through they were, U.S. officials have told NBC News.

Philip Balboni, the chief executive of GlobalPost, told The Wall Street Journal that all communication about Foley was shared with government authorities. He declined to discuss the organization’s reply to the ransom demand

Israeli Airstrike Kills 3 Senior Hamas Leaders

Netanyahu praises the Israeli military's 'precise execution'

ABC News/AP
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — An Israeli airstrike in Gaza killed three senior commanders of the Hamas military wing Thursday, delivering a likely blow to the organization's morale and highlighting the long reach of Israel's intelligence services.

The pre-dawn strike leveled a four-story house in a densely populated neighborhood of the southern town of Rafah, killing six people, including the three senior Hamas commanders.

The trio had played a key role in expanding Hamas' military capabilities in recent years, including digging attack tunnels leading to Israel, training of fighters and smuggling of weapons to Gaza, Israel said.

It was not immediately clear if their assassination would prompt a change in Hamas strategy in the current round of fighting with Israel or diminish the group's ability to fire rockets at Israel. The military wing, the Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, is a secretive organization.

Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, said Israel "will not succeed in breaking the will of our people or weaken the resistance," and that Israel "will pay the price."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the "superior intelligence" of the Shin Bet security service and the military's "precise execution" of the attack.

Report: Officer Darren Wilson Was Badly Beaten by Michael Brown Before Shooting

Video- Fox News Mike Tobin reports on the injuries

Darren Wilson, officer who shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown, was beaten nearly unconscious by Brown, according to a Fox News report.

Citing “a source close” to the police department’s “top brass,” the report said Wilson suffered a fracture to his eye socket and was taken to the hospital with half his face swollen.

More from the report:
According to the well-placed source, Wilson was coming off another case in the neighborhood on Aug. 9 when he ordered Michael Brown and his friend Dorian Johnson to stop walking in the middle of the road because they were obstructing traffic. However, the confrontation quickly escalated into physical violence, the source said..

“They ignored him and the officer started to get out of the car to tell them to move,” the source said. “They shoved him right back in, that’s when Michael Brown leans in and starts beating Officer Wilson in the head and the face.

'What, you're going to shoot me?'
The source claims that there is "solid proof" that there was a struggle between Brown and Wilson for the policeman’s firearm, resulting in the gun going off – although it still remains unclear at this stage who pulled the trigger. Brown started to walk away according to the account, prompting Wilson to draw his gun and order him to freeze. Brown, the source said, raised his hands in the air, and turned around saying, "What, you're going to shoot me?"

At that point, the source told FoxNews.com, the 6 foot, 4 inch, 292-pound Brown charged Wilson, prompting the officer to fire at least six shots at him, including the fatal bullet that penetrated the top of Brown's skull, according to an independent autopsy conducted at the request of Brown's family.

VIDEO- PM David Cameron Condemns 'Barbaric and Brutal' Killing of James Foley

Speaking to reporters in Number 10, PM Cameron said it seemed "increasingly likely" that a British citizen was the killer.

"Let me condemn the barbaric and brutal act that has taken place and let's be clear what this act is - it is an act of murder, and murder without any justification," he said.

"We have not identified the individual responsible, but from what we have seen it looks increasingly likely that it is a British citizen.

"This is deeply shocking. But we know that far too many British citizens have travelled to Iraq and travelled to Syria to take part in extremism and violence"

Obama Statement on James Foley: No Just God Would Stand For What #ISIS Did Yesterday

"We will continue to confront this hateful terrorism and replace it with a sense of hope and civility"

Here's President Obama with a statement on the killing of American journalist James Foley by terrorist group ISIS yesterday.  BTW,  he sounds and looks angry here but says very little on what the United States is going to do specifically in retaliation.

MSNBC: Hillary Clinton's Image Has Been 'Significantly Damaged Since Leaving the State Department'

To top it off, they used this unflattering close-up photo of Clinton at the beginning of their report...
(Screen grab)

Wow. MSNBC runs the numbers on Clinton and the results are not good. Not only do they have poor polling numbers showing a huge slide from numerous surveys, they remind everyone of Hillary's 'Dead Broke' comment followed by how much she's pulling in today for giving speeches.

MSNBC's political analyst says, 'one thing's for certain, every major national poll shows American's views of Hillary Clinton heading in the wrong direction'

He ends his report basically saying that Hillary Clinton  is not a lock in 2016
