U.S. To Buy 30 Russian Helicopters For Afghan Military

This is like watching stand-up comedy.
The U.S. is spending $572M on 30 Russian M-17 helicopters for Afghanistan security forces.

But the Blue Angels are grounded for the rest of 2013 because the same Pentagon couldn't find $20M.

Reuters
The Pentagon said on Monday it will spend $572 million to buy 30 Russian-built military helicopters that will be used by Afghan security forces.

The Mi-17 helicopters will be used by Afghanistan's National Security Forces Special Mission Wing, which supports counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics and special operations missions.

The contract with Rosoboronexport, the Russian arms company, covers spare parts, test equipment and engineering support. The Pentagon said the work would be performed in Russia. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

A year ago, the Defense Department purchased a dozen of the Mi-17 aircraft from Rosoboronexport for $217.7 million, as part of a larger contract originating in 2011.

Voters Disapprove of Obama Decision to Arm Syrian Rebels

54-37

PRINCETON, NJ -- The slight majority of Americans -- 54% -- disapprove of the Obama administration's decision to send direct military aid to Syrian rebels fighting against the Syrian government, while 37% approve. Those who are following the situation in Syria closely -- about half of the public -- are significantly more likely to approve of the decision than are those who are not following the situation closely, although a majority of both groups disapprove.

These results are from a June 15-16 Gallup poll conducted just after the Obama administration announced that it directed the CIA to provide direct military aid to the Syrian rebels. Prior to this announcement last Friday, the administration had been opposed to providing military aid. The administration stated that part of its rationale for the shift in policy was its conclusion that the Syrian government had used chemical weapons against the rebels

During the shoot, Wayne begins rapping in front of a giant American flag ... which is released to the ground. After it's on the floor, Wayne continues to rap ... while stepping all over the stars and stripes.

The lyrics to Wayne's song are just as controversial ... "My country 'tis of thee / Sweet land of kill 'em all and let 'em die / God bless Amerika / This ole' godless Amerika."

Republican Congressman: If Boehner Moves Forward With a Vote on Immigration Reform Without a Republican Majority, "He Should Be Removed as Speaker"

A 'betrayal'

thehill
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) warned Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) would face a conference revolt that could threaten his Speakership if he allows a House vote on the immigration bill presently being debated in the Senate.

Conservatives have been pressuring Boehner to adhere to the unwritten “Hastert Rule” — named after former Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) — that says no bill should come to the House floor unless it has the backing of a majority of a chamber's majority party.

Rohrabacher said if Boehner moves forward with a vote on immigration reform without a Republican majority, it would be a “betrayal” of his party.

“I would consider that a betrayal of the Republican members of the House and a betrayal of the Republicans throughout the country,” Rohrabacher said on World Net Daily radio. “If Boehner moves forward ... and permits this to come to a vote even though the majority of Republicans in the House — and that’s if they do — oppose what’s coming to a vote, he should be removed as Speaker.”

Rohrabacher conceded that he didn’t know if a majority of Republicans in the House currently supported a vote on immigration, but said if they do, it’s only because they’ve been deceived by propaganda from the media and a push from conglomerates looking to import cheap labor.

Glenn Greenwald of the Guardian believes Snowden will continue. On CNN's The Lead, he tells Jake Tapper Ed Snowden is 'incredibly resolute that the choice he made was not just the right one but the only one'

'His answer was, the country was worth risking your life for'

Snowden says he's honored to be called traitor, won't return voluntarily to U.S.

WASHINGTON (AP)— NSA leaker Edward Snowden is defending his disclosure of top-secret U.S. spying programs in an online chat Monday with The Guardian and is attacking U.S. officials for calling him a traitor.

"Being called a traitor by Dick Cheney is the highest honor you can give an American, and the more panicked talk we hear from people like him"

"The U.S. government is not going to be able to cover this up by jailing or murdering me," he said. He added the government "immediately and predictably destroyed any possibility of a fair trial at home," by labeling him a traitor, and indicated he would not return to the U.S. voluntarily.

On Fox News this morning, Snowden's father asked his son to stop

Miss Alabama Cool With Government Tracking Her Phone Messages As Long As it's Done to Keep Us Safe

Mary Margaret, Miss Alabama gets a Q about government spying
"It's sad that if we go to the movies or the airport or the mall that we have to worry about our safety. So I would rather someone track my telephone messages and felt safe wherever I go than feel like they're encroaching on my privacy."

And the low-information audience applauds like this is a great answer!
