Marco Rubio: Rand Paul ‘Has No Idea What He’s Talking About’ On Cuba (Video)

Rubio on Fox News is asked about Rand Paul's support for Obama's new policy on Cuba

When it comes to Sen. Rand Paul's (R-KY) support for the Obama administration's new policy on Cuba, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said the senator from Kentucky doesn't know what he's talking about.

"Like many people who have been opining, he has no idea what he's talking about," Rubio said during an appearance on Fox News' "The Kelly Report" that was flagged by Politico.

The comments came a day after President Barack Obama announced that the U.S. would open diplomatic relations with Cuba. Rubio has been one of the most energetic lawmakers bashing the move but Paul, slower than some of his Republican colleagues to weigh in, said that the U.S.'s half century embargo on Cuba "just hasn't worked."

"If the goal was regime change, it sure doesn't seem to be working," Paul said in an interview earlier in the week on West Virginia radio station WVHU. "Probably it punishes the people more than the regime because the regime can blame the embargo for hardship." (via TPM)

Flashback Romney: By Helping Fidel Castro, President Obama Is Encouraging a Policy of Oppression in Cuba (Video)

Romney blasted Obama during a 'no accommodation, no appeasement' speech he gave in Miami
Watch how vastly different things would have been-
I uploaded this video in January of 2012

-This president does not understand that by helping Castro, he is not helping the people of Cuba, he is hurting them
-He is not putting forward a policy of freedom, he is accommodating and encouraging a policy of oppression
-We will return to Helms-Burton (tightened bans on US trade with Cuba and Americans visiting the country)
-We will not give Castro any gifts
-If I become the next president, it is my expectation that Fidel Castro will finally be taken off this planet
-It is time to strike for freedom in Cuba, I will do so

Mittromney.com 1/25/12
"Mitt Romney will adopt a clear policy toward the Cuban regime: no accommodation, no appeasement. The United States should not relent until the day when the Castros’ regime meets its end and their history is written among the world's most reviled despots, tyrants, and frauds. The North Star that guides Mitt Romney’s policy toward the island is the realizable dream of a free Cuba.

Unfortunately, President Obama has adopted a strategy of appeasement toward the Castro regime. He unilaterally relaxed sanctions without making any demands of the regime. Predictably, the Castros responded to these naïve concessions by tightening their grip on the island and by taking an American, Alan Gross, as a political prisoner. Now, increased travel and remittances to Cuba prop up a regime desperate for foreign currency.

Mitt Romney will break sharply with President Obama’s appeasement strategy. Mitt Romney believes unilateral concessions to a dictatorial regime are counterproductive, helping to secure a succession of power and greater repression instead of a transition to freedom. Mitt Romney will send a strong message to both the regime and the Cuban people that the United States stands with the courageous pro-democracy movement on the island"

3 ISIS Leaders Killed in U.S. Airstrikes in Iraq -Officials

NBC's Jim Miklaszewski reported:

Three leaders of ISIS have been killed by American airstrikes in Iraq in the past month and a half, U.S. defense officials said Thursday.

They were identified as Haji Mutazz, a deputy to the ISIS leader; Abd al-Basit, the top military commander; and Radwin Talib, who is in control of ISIS in Iraq.

One official called the deaths of Mutazz and al-Basit in particular a "serious blow to ISIS command and control." The official said that the setback may be temporary because ISIS has plenty of willing replacements.

CNN reports that the ISIS leaders were very high-ups. One of them was the Al-Baghdadi's deputy in Iraq. Watch the video.

Senior National Security Correspondent Jim Schiutto says that another 1,300 U.S. troops are headed to Iraq. Bring the number to 3,000 troops advisors

Fire Chief: 'Happy Birthday Jesus' Christmas Sign Will Not Be Taken Down

Photo- Sign outside the Utica, NY fire station

Chief says the sign is not going anywhere...

A Utica, New York fire chief says a sign reading "Happy Birthday Jesus - We Love You" will remain in place outside of a fire house, despite threatened lawsuits.

Utica Fire Chief Russell Brooks has received numerous letters this year from a national organization called The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), an organization founded in Wisconsin in 1978 to keep religion and government separate.

Each of the letters asks Chief Brooks to take down a sign that sits outside Firehouse No. 4 in South Utica, which has been put up there by Station 4 firefighters each Christmas season for about the past decade.

Brooks say the Station 4 firefighters started putting the sign up after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

"911 brought a lot of the guys closer to God, and they just wanted to show their faith in Jesus," Brooks said. "They had no idea a controversy would arise."

Fire Chief Russell Brooks says despite the threatening letters he's received, his attorneys tell him he's well within his right to display the sign

Video: Obama Doesn't Rule Out Visiting Cuba

OMG. President Obama talks to ABC's David Muir. At the very end of this video, Muir asks Obama is he'd visit Cuba. Obama doesn't rule it out.

Watch-

Marking an abrupt sea change in U.S. policy toward Cuba, President Obama said today he is open to visiting the communist Caribbean country before he leaves office.

“I don’t have any current plans, but let’s see how things evolve,” Obama told ABC “World News Tonight” anchor David Muir in an exclusive interview.

“The first thing he said was, ‘Mr. President, for you I don’t mind interrupting my corned beef sandwich.’ So I told him he has mustard on his upper lip,” Obama joked.

AP Poll: 80 Percent of Russians Back Putin Despite Ruble's Fall

20% loss in the ruble value in the last few days alone

AP: "Russians see Putin not as the cause, but as the solution"

MOSCOW (AP) — From a Western perspective, Vladimir Putin's days as president of Russia should be numbered: The ruble has lost more than half its value, the economy is in crisis and his aggression in Ukraine has turned the country into an international pariah.

And yet most Russians see Putin not as the cause, but as the solution. The situation as seen from a Russian point of view is starkly different from that painted in the West, and it is driven largely by state television's carefully constructed version of reality and the Kremlin's methodical dismantling of every credible political alternative.

As Putin prepares to face his public in a much-anticipated televised news conference, an Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll released Thursday found that about 80 percent of Russians still support him.

But it also showed that confidence in the economy is slipping. This is particularly true in Moscow, where people have become accustomed to imported goods and foreign travel, now once again off-limits for many because of the fall of the ruble and Western sanctions over Ukraine.

How Russians view Putin is associated with how they get their news, the poll showed. Those who identified state television as their main source of news are more likely to approve of Putin (84 percent) than those who have other sources (73 percent), while those who tune into the news often also have a more favorable opinion of him.
