2 Red State Dems Defect on Keystone Pipeline

Heide Heitkamp, Mary Landrieu signal support for Keystone

Two red state Democratic senators signaled support Thursday for legislation authorizing the Keystone XL pipeline opposed by President Barack Obama, Democratic Party leaders, and influential Democratic donors.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D- N.D., told the Washington Free Beacon in a statement that she will support legislation passed by the House on Wednesday to approve construction of the pipeline if it comes to the Senate floor. "Yesterday's vote on H.R. 3 in the House is another clear indication the majority of those in Congress believe it is time to move forward with the Keystone XL Pipeline," Heitkamp said.

The legislation, authored by Rep. Lee Terry, R-Neb., would circumvent presidential approval of the project, which would carry crude oil from Canada through a 1,700-mile pipeline to refineries on the Gulf coast.

Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., also said she will support the bill, telling the Free Beacon, "our national and economic security will be bolstered with the construction of this pipeline." freebeacon

Franklin Graham: We Were Audited By the IRS After Supporting the North Carolina Marriage Amendment [Video]

In May of 2012, Rev. Billy Graham urged North Carolina voters to support an amendment to the state constitution banning gay marriage. He took out full-page ads in 14 North Carolina newspapers the weekend before the vote. A few months later, Samaritans Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Assoc. received audit notices from the IRS. No doubt they were directly, deliberately targeted because of their public support for traditional marriage. They then tried to open up a North Carolina Corporation (after moving from Minnesota) and applied for tax-exempt status. He waited 14 months, Graham says that he had a total of 9 follow-ups asking if the IRS needed more information because the application was taking so long.

Franklin tells Greta that after news came out that he believed the Billy Graham Assoc. was targeted by the IRS deliberately, a number of other Christian groups came forward to say they were also audited.

He says that the IRS agent that paid them a visit mentioned Graham's support for the North Carolina marriage amendment. Video from Fox News Greta

Ditto.

Hill: "He [Obama] knows there's a sector of the American people who are on his butt right now because of that stuff (AP, IRS), but he knows those same people love war-hawk talk. So that's why he's out giving that speech today, to divert our attention"

Attorney General Eric Holder Signed off on Search Warrant of Fox News Reporter and Seizure of His Private Emails

Of course he did, none of this can happen without approval from the top.

Michael Isikoff NBC News
Attorney General Eric Holder signed off on a controversial search warrant that identified Fox News reporter James Rosen as a “possible co-conspirator” in violations of the Espionage Act and authorized seizure of his private emails, a law enforcement official told NBC News on Thursday.

The disclosure of the attorney general’s role came as President Barack Obama, in a major speech on his counterterrorism policy, said Holder had agreed to review Justice Department guidelines governing investigations that involve journalists.

"I am troubled by the possibility that leak investigations may chill the investigative journalism that holds government accountable," Obama said. "Journalists should not be at legal risk for doing their jobs."

Rosen, who has not been charged in the case, was nonetheless the target of a search warrant that enabled Justice Department investigators to secretly seize his private emails after an FBI agent said he had "asked, solicited and encouraged … (a source) to disclose sensitive United States internal documents and intelligence information."

Obama's comments follow a firestorm of criticism that has erupted over disclosures that in separate investigations of leaks of classified information, the Justice Department had obtained private emails that Rosen exchanged with a source and the phone records of Associated Press reporters.

New York City Mayor: Christine Quinn 24%, Anthony Weiner 18%

2nd place but primary is not 'til September 10th.

rasmussenreports
Former Congressman Anthony Weiner has officially entered the race to become New York City’s next mayor. The first step is the September 10 Democratic primary, and Weiner starts out in second place behind City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. The survey of 745 Registered Democrats was conducted on May 21 and 22, 2013. Christine Quinn 24%, Anthony Weiner 18%. Weiner announced his entry into the race early on the morning of the 22nd

In his new ad released yesterday, Weiner talks about the middle class and has plenty of scenes of him with his wife. (Screen grab)

He talks about second chances (similar to the first Mark Sanford ad) in this new spot and points out all the connections his family has to NYC. Not a bad first web ad from a campaign viewpoint.
