California Governor Jerry Brown Signs Statewide Ban on Plastic Bags

SB270 prohibits stores from providing disposable plastic grocery bags to shoppers, and requires them to charge for paper bags.

nbc reported:
Governor Brown signed the nation's first statewide ban on single-use plastic bags.

The measure first proposed by Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla of Los Angeles would prohibit single-use plastic bags at grocery stores and large pharmacies in 2015 and at convenience stores in 2016.

It includes $2 million in loans to help manufacturers shift to producing reusable bags and lets grocers charge 10 cents each for paper and reusable bags.

The bill had sparked one of the most contentious debates in the last weeks of the legislative session, with aggressive lobbying by environmentalists and bag manufacturers.

For years, a statewide plastic bag ban has been an elusive goal for lawmakers trying to reduce the buildup of plastic waste in oceans and waterways that costs millions of dollars to cleanup. About 100 local jurisdictions in California already have adopted similar bans, including Los Angeles and San Francisco.

This is the second time. Phelps was arrested back in 2004 for DUI

Phelps was pulled over last night for going 84 in a 45 zone

ABC News
Olympic legend Michael Phelps was arrested early this morning for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence in Maryland, authorities said.

The gold medalist was pulled over in his white Land Rover by police at 1:40 a.m. because his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit, police confirmed ABC News.

Phelps, 29, was originally pulled over for speeding. He was going 84 mph in a 45 mph zone and was also seen crossing double lane lines, police said.

The officers realized he was intoxicated and gave him a field sobriety test, authorities said.

"Mr. Phelps was identified as the driver by his driver’s license and appeared to be under the influence. He was unable to perform satisfactorily a series of standard field sobriety tests," a spokesperson for Maryland Transportation Authority told ABC.

Phelps has been charged with speeding, DUI and crossing double lane lines, police said.

Obama Has Missed Over Half Of His Second Term Intel Daily Briefings

A new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) report reveals that President Barack Obama has attended only 42.1% of his daily intelligence briefings (known officially as the Presidential Daily Brief, or PDB) in the 2,079 days of his presidency through September 29, 2014.

The GAI report also included a breakdown of Obama’s PDB attendance record between terms; he attended 42.4% of his PDBs in his first term and 41.3% in his second.

The GAI’s alarming findings come on the heels of Obama’s 60 Minutes comments on Sunday, wherein the president laid the blame for the Islamic State’s (ISIS) rapid rise squarely at the feet of his Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

An ISIS defector says the atrocities by the group were too brutal for him so he shaved his beard and fled to Turkey. Speaking to CNN's Arwa Damon he says ISIS knew airstrikes were coming and prepared, moving weaponry underground and fighters to areas that wouldn't be hit

Damon then interviews an ISIS militant via Skype.  The fighter, using the pseudonym Abu Talha, says ISIS was anticipating strikes from the west, "We've been ready for this for some time," Abu Talha said. "We know that our bases are known because they're tracking us with radars and satellites, so we had backup locations."

He tells Arwa Damon that strikes on oilfields are not having an effect, "We have revenues other than oil. We have other avenues, and our finances are not going to stop just because of oil losses"

He ends his interview with, 'we will defeat the infidels'
