WASHINGTON — The Secret Service on Tuesday evacuated the White House briefing room for a short time in the middle of the daily press briefing, telling reporters and President Obama’s senior communications staff that they had to immediately leave the West Wing.
Journalists and White House officials gathered just outside the West Wing, without word of the reason for the evacuation. After a few minutes they were told to assemble inside the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is across from the West Wing.
Josh Earnest, the White House press secretary, was conducting the daily briefing. He was separated from members of the news media during the evacuation.
