Under Armour has apologized and halted the production of a basketball shirt that parodied the iconic 1945 photograph of Marines lifting an American flag at the battle of Iwo Jima.

The $24.99 shirt, dubbed “Band of Ballers,” depicts basketball players raising a hoop instead of a flag, a local CBS affiliate reported.

The athletic apparel maker issued a series of tweets Saturday addressing concerns from veterans who argued the shirt made light of a critical World War II battle in which thousands of Marines were killed.

“Under Armour has the utmost respect and admiration for active duty service men and women and veterans who have served our country,” the company tweeted. “We deeply regret and apologize that a T-shirt that was not reflective of our values in honoring and supporting our country’s heroes went on sale.

“We have taken the necessary steps to remove this shirt"
