Bachmann Web Ad: We Can't Settle For a President That Would Encourage More Illegal Immigration

Rick Perry, Rick Perry, Rick Perry. I really wonder why she continues this. She hammered Perry for the Gardasil story for more than a week and her numbers did nothing but tank. Now she is hitting Perry on the In-state tuition story which is fine but everybody knows her position here. She's plummeted to 4 percent in the CNN poll and 3 percent in the Fox Poll behind Jon Huntsman. Not to mention she got only 1% in the Florida Straw poll last Saturday.

This strategy is clearly not working. Make your point about Perry and move on. Why not go after Obama and cut a great web ad using his own words against him? I just don't know why someone doesn't suggest that it to her. Here's her new ad on...Perry

Obama Approval Rating Plummets in New Hampshire

Radioactive in New Hampshire: Obama approval at 31%

cnn.com
Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN) - Sixty-five percent of New Hampshire residents disapprove of President Obama's handling of the economy, according to a new poll.

The American Research Group's September 2011 Quarterly New Hampshire Poll also found the president's approval rating in the first-in-the-nation primary state is pegged at 31%.

Dante Scala, a political science professor at the University of New Hampshire, said the notable shift in Obama's support is among undeclared, or independent voters. Sixty-seven percent of undeclared voters in the state say they disapprove of how the president has handled the economy
.

Even though New Hampshire's unemployment rate is much lower than the national figure, Scala said voters here are affected by rampant displeasure in the economy.

Obama lost New Hampshire's primary to Hillary Clinton in 2008 but triumphed over John McCain here with 54% in the general election. The state carries four electoral votes.

The American Research group poll was conducted by telephone from September 25-29, surveying 547 adults in New Hampshire. The sampling error was plus or minus 4.2 percentage points.

Few expect him to run, but New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is essentially even with President Barack Obama in an early look at a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup.

A new Rasmussen national telephone survey of Likely U.S. Voters shows that Obama earns 44% support in the matchup, while Christie attracts 43%. Six percent prefer a third option, and eight percent 8% are undecided.

These numbers place Christie in the same league as other top GOP hopefuls within single digits of Obama including former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Texas Governor Rick Perry and businessman Herman Cain
.

However, just 26% believe the first-term governor is likely to run for the White House, a figure that includes only five percent who think he is Very Likely to run. Twenty percent (20%) of all voters think Christie should run for the White House, but nearly twice as many (37%) say he should not.

Among Republicans, 32% say he should run, 25% hold the opposite view, and 43% are not sure. Just 31% of GOP voters believe he is even somewhat likely to run, while 44% see a Christie campaign as unlikely

Dallas Federal Reserve President Not Concerned About Double Dip But Doesn't See Robust Growth Until Confidence is Restored

Fiscal authorities have done a "horrible job" and the current course of Federal Reserve monetary policy is "pushing on a string." Here he is on Fox Business today

foxbusiness

NEW YORK --The current course of Federal Reserve monetary policy is "pushing on a string" and ineffective in the current climate of uncertainty, a top central banker argued Friday.

Speaking on Fox Business Network, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President Richard Fisher said the biggest factor holding back the economy is "uncertainty" created by government. As long as that climate of doubt continues stimulus provided by the Fed will be ineffective, he said.

That said, the central banker is worried about the economy. Growth is "anemic" and while "I am not concerned about a double dip [recession]...we are on an edge here," Fisher said. He said the nation's fiscal authorities "have done a horrible job" and things like the battle over the debt ceiling during the summer were "a horrible setback" for the nation's economy
.

Fisher's comments came from an interview with the television news channel. The official is one of three central bankers who dissented at last week's Federal Open Market Committee meeting. Fisher, along with the leaders of the Philadelphia and Minneapolis Fed banks, believes the current challenges of the economy cannot be solved with additional policy support from the central bank.

Last week, the Fed decided that it would sell $400 billion of its short-dated holdings, and use the proceeds to buy longer-dated securities. Officials hope this action, called Operation Twist by market participants, will help make credit costs cheaper and give the economy more of a chance to grow (WSJ)

Obama Praises The Killing of Anwar al-Awlaki

SANA, Yemen — Anwar al-Awlaki, the radical American-born cleric who was a leading figure in Al Qaeda’s Yemen affiliate and was considered its most dangerous English-speaking propagandist and plotter, was killed in an American drone strike that deliberately targeted his vehicle on Friday, officials in Washington and Yemen said.

Many details of the strike were unclear, but one American official said that Mr. Awlaki, whom the United States had been hunting in Yemen for more than two years, had been identified as the target in advance and was killed with a Hellfire missile fired from a drone operated by the Central Intelligence Agency.

The official said it was the first C.I.A. strike in Yemen since 2002. Yemen’s Defense Ministry confirmed Mr. Awlaki’s death.

Florida Moves Primary Up To January 31

State leaders on Friday set Florida’s 2012 presidential primary for Jan. 31, bucking national party rules and ensuring that several other states will leapfrog Florida and set earlier elections

Associated Press
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida decided Friday to hold its Republican presidential primary on Jan. 31, snubbing a party rule against fast-track delegate-selection for 2012 and triggering angry responses from traditional early voting states which will now likely rejigger their calendars to stay ahead.

The move actually thwarts efforts by both major political parties to delay presidential primaries and caucuses. Their aim has been to avoid a repeat of the 2008 scenario, when states jumped ahead of each other at that time in attempts to increase their influence in the process
.

In Florida, a special nine-member committee appointed by legislative leaders and Gov. Rick Scott voted 7-2 to set the January date two days after House Speaker Dean Cannon announced that's what it was expected to do.

Cannon and other Florida GOP leaders said they didn't want to jump the traditional early states but wanted to make sure Florida was fifth, even the move was a violation of party rules

Romney Ad Features former Mexican President Praising Rick Perry for his In-State Tuition Policy

Romney with more hard hitting ads. He's hitting Obama with some and hitting Perry with others. In this ad titled 'Thank You Governor Perry,' he uses a clip of Vicente Fox praising Perry

freedomslighthouse
The ad first points out that Perry’s position puts him on the side of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama on the issue, and then it really lowers the boom. It features video of former Mexican President Vicente Fox praising Rick Perry for his position – for “giving access to Mexican migrants to universities in Texas.”

The Romney ad team has been beyond great so far, and one thing this demonstrates is that if Romney winds up winning the GOP Nomination, he will be prepared to go after Barack Obama in a very effective way when it comes to political ads

Joe Biden Calls Elisabeth Hasselbeck

Not the first time he's picked up the phone to call her. He called her last year after his appearance on The View. What do you think the headline would be from the lib media if this was Dick Cheney picking up the phone and calling chicks just to talk?

Not many people would tell Vice President Joe Biden to call back later, but Elisabeth Hasselbeck did just that on Wednesday.

The conservative host on “The View” received a chat request from the veep after his appearance on the show, but had to postpone because she was busy with a school meeting for her kids. Feeling “dorky” for having told the VP to call back later, she said, “Who does that!”

After Biden left her a voicemail, the two were able to connect and he applauded her for putting her kids first. Biden also called the mother of three after his "View" appearance last year.

On Thursday, Hasselbeck tweeted, “checked V-mail: the VP Biden left me the most kind message! Was not offended but Impressed tht i chose kids school mtg over his call!*relief.” She saved the voicemail for her kids to hear one day and jokingly told POLITICO, “He is so kind, I might just register as a Democrat

Looks like he's got her home or cell phone number. Is it just me or is this a little bizarre?

Congressman Darrell Issa Questions Whether White House Pressured Ford to Pull 'Bailout' Ad

Issa is asking Ford for an explaination

thehill
Rep. Darrell Issa said in a letter to the Ford Motor Company on Thursday that he was "deeply concerned about undue political pressure exerted by the White House."

The House Oversight Committee chairman's letter comes on the heels of reports earlier this week that the company had pulled an ad critical of the auto bailout following a phone call with administration officials.

Ford denied Tuesday that the ad was removed because of political pressure, saying instead that it had simply been taken out of their ad rotation as scheduled
.

"For those asking, the ad ran as part of a planned rotation and continues to run online. It contains the unscripted comments of a Ford owner. We supported emergency government support for our competitors and continue to support the decisions we made," Ford said in a statement posted to their Facebook page.

But Daniel Howes, a conservative columnist for The Detroit News, said that the advertisement was pulled "in response to White House questions"

Issa wants an explaination from the company:
In the letter to Ford, Issa asks for a full explanation of the company's decision to pull the advertisement and whether any current or former employee of the Obama administration, United Auto Workers, or Democratic Party contacted the company about the ad. Issa also asks whether the company temporarily pulled the ad from its YouTube page

California: High School Teacher Bans Students From Saying "Bless You" if Someone Sneezes (Video)

The hits just keep on coming...

Bless you.” For uttering those words, a student at William C. Wood High School in Vacaville, Calif. was punished this week by a teacher who claimed that the student disrupted his classroom.

“It’s not … got anything to do with religion,” Wood High health teacher Steve Cuckovich told KTXL News in Sacramento. “It’s got to do with an interruption of class time.”

Rather than issue the student a warning for his alleged offense, Cuckovich decided to take 25 points off the student’s grade, the better to deter other students from mouthing “bless you” or other religious phrases that offend the teacher’s sensibility.

“The blessing really doesn’t make sense anymore,” Cuckovich explained. “When you sneezed in the old days, they thought you were dispelling evil spirits out of your body. So they were saying, ‘God bless you,’ for getting rid of evil spirits. But today, what you’re doing really doesn’t make sense.”

Parents of Woods High students disagree with the school’s health teacher. They say that what doesn’t make sense is that he would go to the extreme length of punishing a student for such innocent words.

I think that’s ridiculous,” said parent Alan Johnson. “First, the Pledge of Allegiance. Now, preventing a kid from saying ‘bless you

Democrats Dispirited About Voting in Election 2012

This could be titled: Dem's enthusiasm about voting in 2012 tanks. This is bad

gallup
PRINCETON, NJ -- In thinking about the 2012 presidential election, 45% of Democrats and independents who lean Democratic say they are more enthusiastic about voting than usual, while nearly as many, 44%, are less enthusiastic. This is in sharp contrast to 2008 and, to a lesser extent, 2004, when the great majority of Democrats expressed heightened enthusiasm about voting.

Democrats' muted response to voting in 2012 also contrasts with Republicans' eagerness. Nearly 6 in 10 Republicans, 58%, describe themselves as more enthusiastic about voting. That is nearly identical to Republicans' average level of enthusiasm in 2004 (59%) and higher than it was at most points in 2008.

*Dems: Are you more or less enthusiastic about voting in 2012? Look at this drop off from 2008. This is very bad news for Democrats in 2012

Chavez Hospitalized For Kidney Failure

'Fairly serious condition'

telegraph
Hugo Chavez, who has been fighting cancer, was rushed to a military hospital for emergency care following kidney failure, according to reports

The leftist, staunchly anti-US stalwart Chavez went into the Military Hospital in Caracas on Tuesday morning, the report on the newspaper's website said, citing anonymous sources with knowledge of the case.

"He was in fairly serious overall condition," a source told the Miami-based Spanish-language daily. "When he arrived, he was in quite serious shape and that is why he was brought in for emergency care
."

Venezuela's Information Minister Andres Izarra appeared to deny the report in a posting on the micro-blogging website Twitter.

"Those who should be admitted are the journalists of the Nuevo Herald, except into a madhouse (instead of a hospital)," Izarra tweeted, without providing further details.

On Sunday, Chavez sought to assure Venezuelans he was healthy, telling them that cancer-fighting chemotherapy treatment has not left him with any debilitating side effects.

Pelosi, Reid Still Least Favorable Congressional Leaders

Voters continue to dislike the top leaders in Congress which is one reason support for term limits remains high. Voters still express more dissatisfaction with the Democratic leaders than their GOP counterparts.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely U.S. Voters shows that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi remains the least popular congressional leader, with 57% who view her unfavorably.

Twenty-nine percent (29%) share a favorable opinion of the San Francisco Democrat. These findings include nine percent (9%) who view Pelosi Very Favorably and 44% who view her Very Unfavorably
.

Pelosi’s latest unfavorable rating is only a slight improvement from her worst rating ever (64%) measured in July and February.

For House Speaker John Boehner, 34% have a favorable opinion of him while 46% view him unfavorably. That includes eight percent (8%) who have a Very Favorable view of the Ohio Republican and 27% who have a Very Unfavorable impression of him. When Boehner took the reins as speaker from Pelosi, he enjoyed a 45% favorable rating and a 34% unfavorable rating

Group Who Places Water Near the Border Angers Arpaio : MyFoxPHOENIX.com

myfoxphoenix
PHOENIX - An advocacy group based in Tucson visited the valley this weekend to spread their message -- No More Deaths -- along the Arizona Mexico border.

No More Deaths is an organization whose mission is to end death and suffering through civil initiatives.

Members believe simple acts like leaving water for illegal immigrants crossing the border saves lives -- but their actions don't sit well with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio
.

Tens of thousands of people cross into the United States through Arizona every year.

Because their journey is not a legal one, the conditions they endure for freedom are harsh and often lead to sickness or death.

“Hot – it’s very hot. It’s very difficult terrain. It’s really rugged. There's not a lick of water anywhere,” said Laura Ilardo, a volunteer with No More Deaths.

Ilardo has walked the paths many of these immigrants have, and her mission is to make sure they have water, food, and even medical care.

“They are very grateful. They are very grateful for the water. They are very grateful that we are out there. Many of them are at their last legs … They have been walking for days," she said.

The nonprofit held a fundraiser in Phoenix, and Arpaio said they should concentrate their efforts elsewhere.

I think they should be raising money to encourage those that want to cross the border not to cross the border, instead of enticing them by having water,” Arpaio said.

Arpaio knows distributing water isn't against the law, but he is keeping his eyes open for anything that might be.

“However, if I can show there is somewhat of a conspiracy -- that they are hooked up with the coyotes, and they know what’s going on -- that’s a different story,” Arpaio said

NEW ORLEANS -- There are several political signs attracting all kinds of attention in one Uptown neighborhood.

On Wednesday, crowds gathered at the corner of Calhoun and Coralie streets, looking at several signs depicting President Barack Obama as either a dunce, a puppet or a crying baby in a diaper
.

"It disrespects the nation -- and President Barack Obama represents our nation," said Skip Alexander, as he looked at one of the signs. "He represents everybody, not some people."

Dozens of protesters came by the house in the 1500 block of Calhoun throughout the day, demanding the sign come down.

"He wouldn't do that to [President] Bush, I'm sure. It's just insulting. It's insulting," said C.C. Campbell-Rock. "He's going to have to take them down."

Remote-Controlled Planes Were Part of Alleged Plot To Attack Pentagon, Capitol

Massachusetts man "wanted to deal a psychological blow to the “enemies of Allah” by hitting the Pentagon, which he called “head and heart of the snake,” according to the affidavit

washingtonpost
BOSTON — A Massachusetts man was arrested Wednesday and accused of plotting an assault on the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol using remote-controlled aircraft armed with explosives — the latest of several terrorism cases to spring from federal sting operations.

Rezwan Ferdaus was arrested in Framingham after undercover federal agents delivered materials he had allegedly requested, including grenades, six machine guns and what he believed was 24 pounds of C-4 explosive. Federal officials said the public was never in danger from the explosives, which it said were always under control and closely monitored
.

Wednesday’s arrest was similar to other cases in which would-be terrorists were caught in sting operations that revolved around fictional plots against various targets, such as Dallas skyscapers or a Chicago nightclub. In this case, though, authorities allege Ferdaus planned the scheme.

According to a federal affidavit, Ferdaus, 26, of Ashland, became convinced that America was evil through jihadi websites and videos, and began planning “jihad” against the U.S. in early 2010. He contacted a federal informant that December and months later, allegedly began meeting to discuss the plot with undercover federal agents he believed were members of al-Qaida.

Ferdaus said he wanted to deal a psychological blow to the “enemies of Allah” by hitting the Pentagon, which he called “head and heart of the snake,” according to the affidavit

Herman Cain: I Could Not Support Rick Perry if He's The Nominee

Don't start messing up Herman, you've had a tremendous week following the Fox debate, don't bump the good headlines with this.

politico
Herman Cain said he could not support Rick Perry if he is the Republican nominee for president, citing a “basic fundamental difference of opinion” on border security.

“Today, I could not support Rick Perry as the nominee for a host of reasons,” Cain told CNN host Wolf Blitzer on Wednesday.

“Him being soft on securing the border is one of the reasons. I feel very strongly about the need to secure the border for real, the need to enforce the laws that are already there, the need to promote the path to citizenship that’s already there,” Cain said
.

In his book, “This is Herman Cain! My Road to the White House,” Cain slams Washington for an “inability” to deal with illegal immigration.

“It must occur legally, through the front door, not the side door or the back door,” Cain writes in the book, out next week.

Cain, who supported Mitt Romney in 2008, said he could support the former Massachusetts governor again if he committed to repealing Obamacare soon after taking office.

“If he stuck to that commitment, I could support him. But if in any way he wanted to compromise and go for a mandate, I couldn’t support him,” Cain said, referencing the issue considered Romney’s most significant political vulnerability. “But I believe that he has backed off that and he’s saying that he would repeal Obamacare.”

I hope that whoever is the nominee, we support them 100% whether that's Perry, Romney, Palin or Cain, this nation cannon endure another 4 years of Obama

Bachmann: "We Intend To Be The Comeback Kid In This Race"

Yesterday, the Bachmann campaign called Iowa a must-win

reuters
Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann, struggling to reverse a slide in opinion polls, told evangelical Christians on Wednesday that she would be "the comeback kid" in the nomination race.

During a stop at Liberty University, Bachmann shrugged off her recent campaign troubles and vowed to turn around her White House bid with a heavy focus on conservative Iowa and South Carolina.

"We intend to be the comeback kid in this race," Bachmann told reporters after a speech at Liberty, which bills itself as the largest evangelical Christian university and is a frequent stop for presidential candidates
.

"In races you have ups and downs, and we are on the upswing now," she said. "We have a very strong base of support in Iowa, we're going to continue to build on that base of support, and we've spent a lot of time in South Carolina too."

Bachmann, a Minnesota congresswoman who stresses her evangelical faith and conservative principles, has slumped in polls in the last month after winning the Iowa straw poll on the same day rival Rick Perry joined the Republican race for the right to challenge President Barack Obama in 2012.

Today, a poll posted at the desmoinesregister.com shows Bachmann in 2nd place (in Iowa) with 15% behind Romney at 21%

By the way, using the term 'comeback kid' could also mean that if she finishes second, it's still a win. In 1992, when Bill Clinton called himself 'the comeback kid' he had actually lost the New Hampshire Primary to Paul Tsongas 33% to 24% but declared victory anyway.

Sharpton Dismisses Black Politicians Criticizing Obama For High Black Unemployment

They supported Hillary in 2008

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - The Rev. Al Sharpton says he will lead a march in Washington next month in support of President Barack Obama's jobs plan—and he dismisses blacks who criticize Obama over high black unemployment.

As Sharpton announced plans Wednesday for the Oct. 15 March for Jobs and Justice, he was asked whether there is a double standard in failing to hold Obama accountable for joblessness among blacks. The leader of the Congressional Black Caucus, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, has said there is.

The double standard, Sharpton says, is that most black politicians who publicly criticize Obama did not initially back his 2008 presidential bid—they supported Hillary Clinton, who is now secretary of state.

The Oct. 15 march was originally scheduled in August, but was postponed due to Hurricane Irene.

Rick Perry's campaign has insisted it has no plans to course-correct or do anything other than slam Mitt Romney harder, but the Texas governor is walking back his "don't have a heart" criticism - one that struck conservatives as a tad liberal - on in-state tuition for illegal immigrants.

He apparently did the walkback in an interview with the conservative website NewsMax.com:

“I was probably a bit over-passionate by using that word and it was inappropriate,” Perry admitted. “In Texas in 2001 we had 181 members of the legislature – only four voted against this piece of legislation – because it wasn’t about immigration it was about education.”
Here is the video of Perry saying it was inappropriate from a interview he did with newsmax. New video:

The Energy Department announced Wednesday that is has finalized more than $1 billion in loan guarantees for two separate solar energy projects.

The decision comes several weeks after Solyndra, a California-based solar manufacturer that received a $535 million loan guarantee from the Obama administration in 2009, filed for bankruptcy and laid off 1,100 workers, setting off a firestorm in Washington.

DOE announced a $737 million loan guarantee to help finance construction of the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project, a 110-megawatt solar-power-generating facility in Nye County, Nev. The project is sponsored by Tonopah Solar, a subsidiary of California-based SolarReserve

The Energy Department said the project will result in 600 construction jobs and 45 permanent jobs.

The Crescent Dunes facility will generate power using concentrated solar power technology, in which a series of mirrors direct sunlight onto a receiver at the center of the plant.

The Energy Department also announced that it had finalized a separate $337 million loan guarantee to Sempra Energy for a 150-megawatt photovoltaic solar-generation project in Arizona.

The project will result in 300 construction jobs, DOE said

Rick Perry is nipping at his heels with 20 percent, and no other candidate over 9 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Minnesota U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann runs eighth with 3 percent of the vote.

But Perry tops Romney 42 - 38 percent in a head-to-head matchup among Republicans, the independent Quinnipiac University poll finds.

Among all contenders, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin gets 9 percent, followed by businessman Herman Cain at 7 percent, Texas U.S. Rep. Ron Paul at 6 percent and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 4 percent each.

If Palin decides not to run, Romney gets 25 percent to Perry's 21 percent

Video: Chris Christie Slams Barack Obama During Speech At Reagan Library

This might have been the best part of the speech. Christie quotes Obama's speech in 2004 at the DNC Convention and throws it back at him. "7 years later President Obama prepares to divide our nation to achieve reelection." This is tonight at the Reagan library.

CHRISTIE: "When did Obama decide to be one of the dividers?...Telling those who are scared and struggling that the only way their lives can get better is to diminish the success of others...It is a demoralizing message for America"

Fox News Megyn Kelly Responds to Joy Behar’s Interview With VP Biden on “Boo-ing” in Debate After Gay Soldier's Question

Megyn Kelly: "Well, having actually been at the debate, I can tell you there were a total of two boos in an auditorium of over 5,000 people"

foxnewsinsider
On Tuesday’s episode of the talk show “The View,” co-host Joy Behar asked guest Vice President Joe Biden about “booing” that went on during the Fox News/Google Debate when a gay soldier asked a question on gay rights. Behar said she was aghast at how none of the Fox News Channel panelists chastised the audience over the response; Biden agreed, calling the audience reaction reprehensible.

Megyn Kelly, one of the panelists during the debate, took a moment on today’s America Live to respond, saying there were a total of two “boos” in an auditorium of over 5,000 people. She also contended that the noise was heard only after the soldier completed asking his question, not after he revealed his homosexuality.

Ed Koch: “I’m Now on Board the Obama Reelection Express"

That was fast!

Absolutely amazing, 9 days after Ed Koch said in an Op-Ed in the NYDN "If he [Obama] doesn't read the tea leaves and change his position, you can be certain I will continue to bang my drum. I will campaign against him not only in New York, but in other parts of the country next year." Well today, Ed Koch endorsed Obama for president in 2012. I'd love to know what went on behind the scenes

abcnews
It turns out that failed New York congressional candidate David Weprin and former NYC Mayor Ed Koch have more in common than many people thought.

Koch, 86, backed Republican Bob Turner in the special election to fill disgraced Democrat Anthony Weiner’s old seat. Koch repeatedly said while campaigning with Turner he wanted to “send a message” to the White House on Israel.

Message received, apparently. Koch endorsed President Barack Obama today.

In an email sent to supporters and obtained by Politico, Koch says he is backing the president for recent moves regarding Israel.

[Note: His reasons for his change of heart here are ridiculous]
“The president should be praised for intervening with the Egyptian army to save the Israeli diplomatic personnel from physical assault and providing the Israeli military with bunker buster bombs, advanced military technology and providing military intelligence cooperation far exceeding his predecessors,” Koch wrote. “I’m now on board the Obama Reelection Express.”

At Turner’s election party in Queens earlier this month, Koch told reporters the president had “thrown Israel under the bus,” and he had also suggested he would take his message to other places in the country with large Jewish populations such as South Florida. But it seems all is now well with Koch and the president.

The New York Times reported that Koch also cited being invited to a party the president and first lady held at the New York Public Library for United Nations delegates last week where he spoke with the president

White House OMB Director Jack Lew Runs From Questions About Solyndra

washingtontimes

Director of the United States Office of Management and Budget Jack Lew refused to answer questions about Solyndra on Tuesday when he was asked by the Washington Times' affiliated radio show, America's Morning News, if he let Energy Secretary Steven Chu know that there were concerns from OMB about loaning more tax payer money to the now defunct solar panel maker company Solyndra

Israel Approves 1,100 New Homes in East Jerusalem

Netanyahu rules out any freeze in new construction

Associated Press
JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel granted the go-ahead on Tuesday for construction of 1,100 new Jewish housing units in east Jerusalem, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ruled out any freeze in settlement construction, raising already heightened tensions after last week's Palestinian move to seek U.N. membership.

Israel's Interior Ministry said the homes would be built in Gilo, a sprawling Jewish enclave in southeast Jerusalem. It said construction could begin after a mandatory 60-day period for public comment, a process that spokesman Roi Lachmanovich called a formality.

The announcement drew swift condemnation from the Palestinians, who claim east Jerusalem as their future capital. The United States, European Union and United Nations all expressed disappointment with Israel's decision.

"This sends the wrong signal at this sensitive time," said Richard Miron, spokesman for U.N. Mideast envoy Robert Serry.

The Palestinians have demanded that Israel halt all settlement construction in east Jerusalem and the adjacent West Bank — territories captured by Israel in the 1967 Mideast war — as a condition for resuming peace talks

White House responds:

Oops! White House Fails Basic Geography Test

The 3 states Obama will visit (in White). Washington, California and Colorado. What's wrong? That's Wyoming highlighted, not Colorado

cnn.com

Looks like someone in the White House press office needs to brush up on his or her U.S. geography.

The press office issued credentials to those reporters and photojournalists who are covering the president’s trip this week to Washington state, California, and Colorado. The credential even provides a handy graphic highlighting (in white) which states the president will visit.

The only problem?

Wyoming is highlighted, not Colorado
. To be fair, both states are rectangular, nearly identical in size, and stacked next to each other. But we doubt our third grade teachers would buy that!

Chris Christie Will Not Run For President

Sources confirming to Fox News that New Jersey governor Chris Christie will not run for president in 2012. It is official. He's NOT RUNNING

Fundraiser in Chief: You Can Pay Up to $50,000 To See The President in Las Vegas

Obama heading to Las Vegas next month on the 24th

lasvegassun
When President Obama visits Las Vegas on Oct. 24, he will not just have a "luncheon and discussion" with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid -- he will be raising large amounts of money for his re-election campaign.

According to an invite I have posted, there are various levels from $1,000 up to $50,000, which gets you "co-chair" status and a photo. For $25,000, you can be a mere "host" and get a photo.

But no money from "minors under the age of 16." Good to know

Axelrod: Obama Faces a 'Titanic Struggle' For Reelection

I agree

Associated Press
MANCHESTER, N.H. — President Obama's chief political adviser is calling President Barack Obama's road to re-election a "Titanic struggle."

And David Axelrod also concedes that the Democratic president doesn't have the wind at his back.

Axelrod shared his stark assessment on the next election with a crowd of New Hampshire politicians and business leaders Tuesday morning. Despite the challenge, he jabbed the field of Republicans jockeying for the chance to face Obama in 2012.

Axelrod notes that not one of the candidates defended a gay soldier when he was booed during the last presidential debate. And he says the Republicans have clung closely to the tea party line.

Their plans to fix the economy, he says, are the same plans that led to the economic downturn.

Senator Chuck Grassley on Fast and Furious: "We're Not Going To Give Up, We're Gonna Keep on Until We Get To The Bottom of It"

Chuck Grassley on Fox News says they will get to the bottom of who knew what and when about the ATF's Fast and Furious program. "We're gonna find out who gave the approval." He tells Greta that the Justice Department actually blamed a "computer crash" for one of the reasons they could not get requested documents to the senator.

Militants Attack NATO Tankers in Pakistan

cnn.com
Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- Militants on motorcycles attacked a convoy of tankers carrying fuel for NATO in northwest Pakistan Tuesday, igniting four of the trucks and injuring at least one of the drivers, police said.

The trucks were traveling through the Mastung district about 50 kilometers (31 miles) south of Quetta when militants shot at the convoy, igniting a fire, senior police official Ismail Kurd said
.

The trucks were carrying fuel for NATO troops, but apparently do not belong to the organization.

Mastung has been the site of repeated violence between extremist Sunni and Shiite Muslims in the past few months. Last week, militants attacked a bus carrying Shiite Muslims, killing 26 and wounding six, police said.

Bill Clinton's Criticism of PM Netanyahu Does Not Reflect U.S. Views-State Dept.

The comment are those of a 'private citizen' the State Dept. says. As of right now, the only one reporting this story is the JPost who quotes a US embassy spokesperson

Jerusalem Post
US State Department says former president Clinton's comments blaming Netanyahu for impasse in peace process [are] those of "private citizen."

The US State Department under Hillary Clinton is not endorsing the sharp criticism of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu voiced last week by her husband, former US president Bill Clinton.

“President Clinton is a private citizen, his comments reflect his private views,” a US embassy spokesperson said Monday
.

The former president, who had a testy relationship with Netanyahu when he was president and Netanyahu was prime minister in the late 1990s, blamed Netanyahu for the impasse in the diplomatic process during a discussion last week with bloggers.

His comments came even as the Obama administration’s public tone toward Israel changed dramatically last week, with US President Barack Obama’s sympathetic and empathic address at the UN.

According to Josh Rogin’s blog on the Foreign Policy website last week, Clinton attributed the lack of a comprehensive peace agreement today to the Netanyahu administration’s refusal to accept the Camp David deal that he brokered in 2000, and the influx of Russian-speaking immigrants who he called “territorialists

Raw Video: Obama Interrupted By Heckler At Fundraiser in Los Angeles

Before the speech even started. A man starts screaming 'Jesus Christ is God.' He then calls Obama the 'anti-Christ.' This guy is in the front row, directly in front of Obama. This is at the House of Blues fundraiser in LA

abcnews.com
Speaking at a campaign fundraiser at the House of Blues in L.A. tonight, President Obama was interrupted by a heckler shouting “Jesus Christ is God!” repeatedly as he was physically removed from the event.

As the young man shouted from the front row that the president was an antichrist, Obama’s loyal supporters drowned out the heckler’s rant with boos and chants of “Four more years! Four more years!”

While Obama initially looked befuddled – the heckler interrupted him before he even finished delivering his thank-yous at the top of his remarks – the president ultimately laughed it off. “First of all, I agree that Jesus Christ is the lord. I believe in that,” Obama jokingly responded to the tirade.

Later in the event, another far more friendly heckler shouted, “Don’t forget medical marijuana!” as Obama touted health care reform.

“Thank you for that,” the president responded.

That man was allowed to remain in the event

Zogby: Herman Cain Leads GOP Field With 28%

Herman Cain 28%, Rick Perry 18%, Mitt Romney 17%. A CNN poll released this morning had Perry leading and Herman Cain only pulling 7%

zogby
UTICA, NY--Rick Perry has tumbled by more than 20 percentage points over the past month among Republican presidential primary voters and is now second to Herman Cain, who leads the field with 28%.

Mitt Romney received little benefit from Perrys fall, garnering 17% of the vote for third place
.

As for President Barack Obama, both his job approval (42%) and the percentage who believe he deserves re-election (37%) are little changed from recent polls, but he does seem to be winning back some supporters who have been disappointed in his job performance.

These results are from an IBOPE Zogby interactive poll conducted Sept. 23-26 of all likely voters and of likely Republican primary voters.

Senate Reaches Deal to Avoid Government Shutdown

By a vote of 79-12, the Senate passes the bill sending it to the House for a final sign-off

Associated Press
WASHINGTON Ending weeks of political brinkmanship, Congress finessed a dispute over disaster aid Monday night and advanced legislation to avoid a partial government shutdown only days away.

The agreement ensured there would be no interruption in assistance to areas battered by disasters such as Hurricane Irene and last summer’s tornados in Joplin, Mo., and also that the government would be able to run normally when the new budget year begins on Saturday.

The Senate approved the resolution after a day of behind-the-scenes talks and occasionally biting debate, spelling an end to the latest in a string of standoffs between Democrats and Republicans over deficits, spending and taxes. Those fights have rattled financial markets and coincided with polls showing congressional approval ratings at historically low levels

The breakthrough came hours after the Federal Emergency Management Agency indicated it had enough money for disaster relief efforts through Friday. That disclosure allowed lawmakers to jettison a $1 billion replenishment that had been included in the measure – and to crack the gridlock it had caused.

Sarah Palin Threatens to Sue 'Rogue' Author Joe McGinniss

"Knowingly publishing false statements"

politico

Sarah Palin’s family lawyer has sent a letter to the publisher of “The Rogue” threatening to sue the company, its publisher and the book’s author, Joe McGinniss, for “knowingly publishing false statements,” ABC News reports.

ABC News’s Shushannah Walshe and Jonathan Karl got hold of the letter from John Tiemessen, the Palin family attorney, to Maya Mavjee, the publisher of Crown Publishing Group, which claims it was “malicious” for Crown to publish the book when it has proof that McGinniss and Crown were aware the statements in the book were false.

The letter cites an email that McGinniss sent to liberal Alaskan blogger Jesse Griffin as part of his research for the book, which Andrew Breitbart posted on his site last week. In the email, McGinniss writes that “Legal review of my manuscript is underway and here’ my problem: no one has ever offered documentation of any of the lurid stories about the Palins.”

But as David Weigel wrote last week, McGinniss wrote this sentence in reference to a handful of specific rumors that he couldn’t confirm, and that he treats with various kinds of caution in the book.

Protesters Greet Obama in Seattle (Video)

Mostly a bunch of leftists showing up in Seattle yesterday for Obama's fat-cat fundraiser with the same left-wing chants as usual

President Obama, hitting the Bay Area Sunday to appear at a pair of pricy campaign fundraisers expected to raise millions, was also the focus of protests from activists - on both the right and the left - who hammered his jobs and economic agenda.

Tea Partiers on the conservative side, as well as a coalition of progressive black, Latino and Asian business leaders were among those who marked Obama's arrival Sunday in the Bay Area with protests as the president opened a two-day Western swing with seven fundraisers from San Diego to Seattle.

WASHINGTON - Dramatic video from inside the Washington Monument was released Monday by the National Park Service . It shows tourists and Park officers as they react to the shaking of the earthquake.

The service says it does not know when the Monument will reopen, and won’t know more until an assessment is completed in October.

So far, the repairs have cost $207,000.

A rappel team from Alaska will be inspecting all four sides of the Monument early Tuesday morning.

Last month's earthquake caused several cracks to form at the top of the 555-foot monument. It's been closed since the 5.8-magnitude quake struck on Aug. 23

Chris Christie Kicks Off 3-State Tour

This will ad to further speculation about a run, especially doing a speech at the Reagan library

myfox
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is hitting the campaign circuit for a three-state tour.

Christie, popular nationally among Republicans for his blunt, no-nonsense style, will headline the Missouri Republican Party's annual dinner Monday night. The event is typically the state party's largest fundraiser of the year
.

On Tuesday morning, he'll speak at a breakfast for former Missouri Republican state party chairman Ann Wagner, who is running for Congress.

Christie then heads to California, where he'll deliver the keynote address for a leadership forum at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on Tuesday nigh.

And he heads south on Thursday to appear with Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal at a Republican fundraiser.

Jindal campaigned for Christie in 2009 and the two have remained friends. Tickets for that fundraiser run from $10,000 to $100,000

Dennis Miller Endorses Herman Cain For President

Miller will also headline a fundraiser for Cain

On the heels of presidential candidate Herman Cain's win in the Florida straw poll last weekend, the radio host Dennis Miller announced Monday that he's endorsing Cain's campaign for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

Miller, who mentioned his support for the Cain campaign on his national radio show, will headline a fundraiser for Cain in Los Angeles and has donated to the campaign, a Cain spokeswoman confirmed
.

"I'd like to thank [Miller] for his support," Cain said in a statement on his campaign Twitter feed. "I look forward to working with him as we continue our journey to the White House!"

Miller has been supportive of Cain for months--his website directed readers to the Georgia businessman's campaign site in July--but had not formally endorsed him until today.(theticket)

CNN Poll: Rick Perry 28%, Mitt Romney 21%, Newt Gingrich 10%

Perry is done, over, finished, toast. Except for the fact that he's leading the Republican field by 7 points in this latest CNN poll conducted after the debate that supposedly sunk him. I actually grew a little tired of hearing how it was over for Perry for 4 days straight following the Fox/Google debate. Rick Perry did not perform well, no question about it. But he was by no means Admiral Stockdale on the stage debating the other candidates.

politicalticker

Washington (CNN) - Despite his performances in the two most recent Republican presidential debates, a new national survey indicates that Texas Gov. Rick Perry remains on top of the field in the race for the GOP nomination.

But a CNN/ORC International Poll also indicates that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney does better than Perry in hypothetical 2012 general election matchups against President Barack Obama and matches evenly with the president on the issues and on personal characteristics
.

According to the survey, which was released Monday, 28 percent of Republicans and independents who lean towards the GOP say they support Perry as their party's presidential nominee, with Romney at 21 percent. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is at ten percent, with Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who's making his third bid for the White House, host Herman Cain, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, all at seven percent. The poll indicates that Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota is at four percent, with former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania at three percent and former Utah Gov. and ambassador to China Jon Huntsman at one percent.

Palin has flirted with a bid for the GOP nomination, but the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee has not taken any concrete steps towards launching a campaign. Taking Palin out of the mix produces a similar result: 30 percent for Perry, 22 percent for Romney, 11 percent for Gingrich, and all other candidates in single digits.

Perry 28%
Romney 21%
Gingrich 10%
Paul 7%
Cain 7%
Palin 7%
Bachmann 4%
