President Obama has landed at Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan for a surprise visit to that country.

(John Moore/Getty Images)This is Obama's first trip to Afghanistan as commander-in-chief, though he visited once as a senator, on July 19, 2008, during the presidential general election.

Obama made a surprise and secret visit to Baghdad last April and addressed U.S. troops at Camp Victory.

Today, Obama is scheduled to meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and members of the Afghan cabinet and to address U.S. troops at Bagram Air Base.

After a lengthy strategy review last fall, Obama announced in December that he was ordering a troop surge in Afghanistan to target insurgents and secure key areas here.
