How we intentionally did not follow the Taliban and al-Qaeda as they were escaping," Hinchey said. "That was done by the previous administration because they knew very well that if they would capture al-Qaeda, there would be no justification for an invasion in Iraq."

Shuster: "Do you really believe that?"

Hinchey: "There's no question that the leader of the military operations of the U.S. called back our military. Called them back from going after the head of al-Qaeda," he said..."I don't think will strike a lot of people as crazy. I think it'll strike a lot of people as accurate,...That's exactly what happened."

PRINCETON, NJ -- Americans currently tilt against Congress' passing healthcare legislation, with 49% saying they would advise their member to vote against a bill (or they lean that way) and 44% saying they would advocate a vote in favor of the bill (or lean toward advising a yes vote).

Support for Healthcare Legislation by Political Party
Republicans are overwhelmingly opposed to new healthcare legislation -- 86% would advise their member of Congress to vote against it, while 12% would want their member to support it. Democrats, on the other hand, favor it by a 76% to 17% margin. Independents oppose passage of a bill by 53% to 37%.

Support among all three party groups has declined since the early October high -- falling by 6 points among Democrats, 8 among independents, and 12 among Republicans. However, Democratic support recovered somewhat from early November (71%) to late November (76%).

Maurice Clemmons, the 37-year-old Tacoma man being sought for questioning in the killing of four Lakewood police officers this morning, has a long criminal record punctuated by violence, erratic behavior and concerns about his mental health.

Nine years ago, then-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee granted clemency to Clemmons, commuting his lengthy prison sentence over the protestations of prosecutors.

"This is the day I've been dreading for a long time," Larry Jegley, prosecuting attorney for Arkansas' Pulaski County said Sunday night when informed that Clemmons was being sought in connection to the killings.

Clemmons' criminal history includes at least five felony convictions in Arkansas and at least eight felony charges in Washington. The record also stands out for the number of times he has been released from custody despite questions about the danger he posed.

...When Clemmons received the 60-year sentence, he was already serving 48 years on five felony convictions and facing up to 95 more years on charges of robbery, theft of property and possessing a handgun on school property. Records from Clemmons' sentencing described him as 5-foot-7 and 108 pounds. The crimes were committed when he was 17.

Clemmons served 11 years before being released. News accounts say Huckabee then commuted Clemmons' sentence, citing Clemmons' young age at the time the crimes were committed.

A Saturday rally led by anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan at Travis Air Force Base nearly ended in a brawl when a military veteran physically confronted the protesters.Anti-war group Code Pink demonstrated at the military base Saturday morning in the first of six planned protests against unmanned military drones currently in use in overseas war zones.

Videotape of the incident shows that Sheehan yelled "Get out of my face" through the megaphone at the man, who slapped the device away.

Other protesters immediately joined Sheehan and traded insults with the man, and a shoving match broke out.Military police quickly pulled the two sides apart. "I don't want to be a personality over this, that's not

Television industry executives said on Saturday that Michaele and Tareq Salahi had postponed plans for an interview Monday on CNN’s “Larry King Live” and were seeking top-dollar bids for their first television interview

As questions continued to swirl about the pair’s most remarkable appearance to date, a television network executive, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the network does not publicly comment on payments, said the couple’s asking price for an interview was in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. “They are asking for best offers from all the networks,” the executive said.

Programs quietly pay steep fees for photographs and videos to secure interviews in some cases.Separately, a CNN spokesman confirmed that the appearance on Mr. King’s talk show was postponed on Friday.

It would be good if they were not rewarded for breaking the law, but it looks like in the age of tabloid television, that won't happen...

The White House took on a conservative columnist on Friday evening, in its latest bid to correct perceived inaccuracies in arguments against health reform.

Incoming White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer, in a blog post on the White House's website, said that syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer had made a "wholly inaccurate" case against health reform efforts favored by the Obama administration.

"In today's Washington Post, Charles Krauthammer takes great pains to paint a bleak picture of health care reform as 'monstrous,' 'overregulated,' and rife with 'arbitrary bureaucratic inventions,'" Pfeiffer wrote. "The columnist's argument may be cogent and well-written, but it is wholly inaccurate."

Pfeiffer argued the bill substantially includes the reforms Krauthammer would prefer, while going beyond those reforms to impose a broader overhaul of health insurance.

The blog represents just the latest salvo in an ongoing effort by the White House to go on the offensive with its messaging in the healthcare battle.

Recession Sends Older Americans to Food Pantries

Older Americans who were raised on stories of the Great Depression and acquired lifelong habits of thrift now find themselves crowding soup kitchens and food pantries in greater numbers for the first time after seeing retirement funds, second jobs and nest eggs wiped out by recession.

"What we see in line is lots of gray hair, lots of walkers," said Marti Forman, CEO of The Cooperative Feeding Program in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The help is crucial for many fixed-income seniors, who can't always keep up with rising food prices.

"It's a lifeline. It just means that you can function," said Ronald Shewchuk of Ithaca, N.Y. "Otherwise we would have to sell our house. I don't know what we would do. Go to an old age home."

The number of seniors living alone who seek help from food pantries in the U.S. increased 81 percent to 408,000 in 2008, compared to 225,000 in 2006, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Overall, 4.7 million households used American food pantries in 2008, compared to about 3.7 million in 2006.

"Seniors thought they were OK, but they're not OK," said Virginia Skinner, director of Development at The Association of Arizona Food Banks in Phoenix, citing the downturn in the area's housing market.

Catholic Charities USA, which has 170 agencies across the country helping the needy, issued a 2009 third-quarter report that found a 54 percent increase in requests for food and services from seniors nationwide compared to the same period last year.

Professional golfer Tiger Woods was seriously injured in a car accident early this morning, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Woods, 33, pulled out of his driveway in the Isleworth community about 2:25 a.m. when he struck a fire hydrant, and then drove into a tree at his neighbor's property, FHP reported.

Woods was transported to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee in serious condition, FHP said.Officials close to accident investigation told the Orlando Sentinel that Woods received facial lacerations. He was treated at Health Central early this morning and released.

A Health Central hospital employee said this afternoon that Woods is not a patient. There are no other details available about Woods' condition. Alcohol is not considered a factor, FHP said.

The airbags in Woods' Cadillac Escalade did not deploy, which means the vehicle was traveling under 33 mph, according to FHP.

The Secret Service says it's looking at possible criminal charges against a Virginia couple who crashed a White House dinner.

Secret Service spokesman Jim Mackin says the agency is moving closer to beginning a criminal investigation. He says that's one reason the Secret Service hasn't yet explained what happened when Michaele and Tareq Salahi arrived at the security checkpoint Tuesday for the dinner honoring Indian Prime Minister Manmohan.

Mackin says there's less the Secret Service can say as the probe moves closer to a criminal investigation. He says the agency isn't leaving any options off the table at this point.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for Bravo says the couple who crashed a White House state dinner were being filmed that day by a camera crew connected with a reality television program.

The spokeswoman says no filming took place on White House grounds. Bravo confirmed today that Michaele Salahi is being considered for "The Real Housewives of D.C."

She and her husband Tareq Salahi were being filmed as they prepared for the Tuesday event.The spokeswoman says the Salahis said they were invited and "the producers had no reason to believe otherwise."

The White House is refusing to comment. A Secret Service spokesman says the president was never in danger. The agency, which is investigating, admits that procedures weren't followed at one checkpoint. A lawyer for the couple says "They didn't do anything wrong," and "just went to a party."

One thing should be pointed out here, for what it's worth, the girl (Michaele) is reported to be a cast member on the show "Real Housewives of D.C.," and they just happened to show up at the White House with a television camera as Brian Williams reports in the above audio, the show is on the BRAVO network, which just happens to be owned by NBC Universal, and Jeffrey Immelt was a guest at the White House State Dinner. Could mean nothing, but now everyone knows about the new reality show....Another balloon boy hoax???
