"I’m not of a mind to reform health care for the sake of anyone’s memory, because I’m concerned about how that impacts my mom and my dad,”

"While I admire the legacy of Sen. Ted Kennedy, I disagree with his view of health care for this country. That’s part of the debate. But I don’t want to see the county be guilted into a health care reform because of the passing – unfortunate passing of a great senator," he added. "Use that memory to stoke the debate of the clear distinction between Republicans, for example, and Democrats on this issue. Where we think individual should be in power to create a bottom-up, patient-centered system, versus a top-down, government-centered system that the Democrats are proposing."

WFXT-TV: A woman that appears to be the daughter of Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg gives the middle finger to an unknown crowd member during Thursday's procession.

Our photographer just happened to be focused on the limo carrying the young Kennedy woman right when she made the obscene gesture near Fanueil Hall. The woman in question appears to be 21 year old Rose Schlossberg, the daughter of Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg and Edwin Schlossberg and granddaughter of former president John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Our photographer was not close enough to know what happened to prompt Rose to do this, but it looks like she was responding to someone in the crowd.

When you live under the glare of the spotlight like the Kennedys, perhaps this funeral is even more stressful. But what was JFK’s granddaughter thinking? Cameras are always rolling when the Kennedys are around, especially when there’s a procession for Great Uncle Ted and tens of thousands of people turn out. What do you think? Inappropriate gesture on a solemn day or no big deal?

Dick Cheney says that the Obama administration possibly pursuing an investigation of lawyers from the Bush administration "an outrageous precedent to set," calling it an "intensely partisan politicized look back" at the prior administration.

"I think it's an outrageous political act that will do great damage long-term."

He added that the fact that the Obama administration is even thinking about such an investigation after their "track record of defending the nation" for eight years "offends the hell out of me."

He goes on to say that "advanced interrogation techniques" such as waterboarding were "absolutely essential."

The British government decided it was “in the overwhelming interests of the United Kingdom” to make Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi, the Lockerbie bomber, eligible for return to Libya, leaked ministerial letters reveal.

Gordon Brown’s government made the decision after discussions between Libya and BP over a multi-million-pound oil exploration deal had hit difficulties. These were resolved soon afterwards.

The letters were sent two years ago by Jack Straw, the justice secretary, to Kenny MacAskill, his counterpart in Scotland, who has been widely criticised for taking the formal decision to permit Megrahi’s release.

The correspondence makes it plain that the key decision to include Megrahi in a deal with Libya to allow prisoners to return home was, in fact, taken in London for British national interests.

Edward Davey, the Liberal Democrat foreign affairs spokesman, said: “This is the strongest evidence yet that the British government has been involved for a long time in talks over al-Megrahi in which commercial considerations have been central to their thinking.”

One person carried a sign that said, "TeddyCare for all."U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney told the crowd the bill will lower health care costs for almost everyone. The New York Democrat also invoked Kennedy, saying the senator understood the need for change.Opponents say the legislation will cost too much and diminish the quality of care.

Many people were left outside when the school filled to capacity. School security officer Wesley Cheeks, Jr. did not like my anti-Obamacare poster which used one of the gone-viral "Joker" graphics. When I said to Officer Cheeks, "This used to be America!" his response was: "It ain't no more, OK?"

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 20% of adults disagree, and 18% are not sure. The new findings mark a nine-point increase in support for taxpayers as the best judges of spending since January.

But then Americans by a two-to-one margin – 50% to 25% - believe that a dollar of tax cuts is always better than a dollar of public spending. One-in-four-Americans (25%), however, aren’t sure. Similarly, just 25% say public spending provides much more bang for the buck than tax cuts when it comes to economic policy and creating jobs. Fifty percent (50%) disagree that public spending is better for the economy than tax cuts. But again 26% are undecided.

Senator Mary Landrieu has left the building after about two hours with a boisterous crowd at the Louisiana National Guard outpost Reserve. Crowd estimates at Thursday's meeting range from 500 to 650 people. There were a few more than 400 chairs set up, and it was standing-room only around the periphery.

Most of the questions were overwhelmingly in opposition to the general concept of "Obamacare," a pejorative label put on House Democratic plans for a health insurance overhaul. There were scores of other, less vocal attendees who sported stickers with messages like, "Health Care Now" and "We can't wait." Some were part of union organizing efforts. Whoops! Cash For Clunkers Payments Are Taxable

Some of the drivers that bought new cars through cash for clunkers are learning that it wasn't quite the deal they hoped for. But many of those cashing in on the clunkers program are surprised when they get to the treasurer's office windows. That's because the government's rebate of up to $4500 dollars for every clunker is taxable.

"They didn't realize that would be taxable. A lot of people don't realize that. So they're not happy and kind of surprised when they find that out," Nelson said.
We imagine that MOST people didn't know the rebates were taxable. We certainly didn't.
I heard about this, but it took me awhile to find it. In the CARS program the "clunker" is to be destroyed as everyone now knows, below is a truly disgusting video, the destruction of what appears to be a perfectly fine black Corvette...

The push for swiftly naming an interim successor to Senator Edward M. Kennedy intensified Wednesday in the wake of his death, with Gov. Deval Patrick coming out strongly in favor of the idea and other top state lawmakers indicating they were reluctant to leave the seat vacant for months.

Wednesday, Democrats in Washington stepped up pressure on the governor to see Mr. Kennedy’s wish fulfilled, and state legislative leaders said they would immerse themselves in the issue after a mourning period for Mr. Kennedy.

Under current law, a special election could not take place until at least 145 days after a Senate seat opens, in this case, mid-January. Mr. Kennedy’s proposal would let Mr. Patrick, a Democrat, appoint a temporary replacement sooner.
The governor said he would sign a change in the law if the legislature approved it. He said it was important for Massachusetts to have two voices in the Senate as Congress prepares to vote on overhauling the health care system — contentious legislation whose passage may well require every Democratic vote.

“It’s a particularly timely request at a time when there are such profoundly important issues pending in the Congress,” Mr. Patrick told reporters outside the State House, adding that he had spoken with Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the majority leader, earlier in the day about the importance of filling Mr. Kennedy’s seat. “I’m looking at the issues that are in front of the country right now and how important they are to all of us.”

Now that the government's cash-for-clunkers blowout is finally over, some fear a morning-after hangover of buyers' remorse and a sales drought for struggling auto dealers.
The offer of incentives to trade old gas guzzlers for new, more efficient vehicles resulted in 690,114 sales for which dealers applied for vouchers by the Transportation Department's Tuesday deadline. The taxpayers' cost will be nearly $2.9 billion.

Now there's a calm after the storm. Car-shopping service Edmunds.com says half as many people are researching a new car purchase on its website as were looking during the peak of the clunker frenzy. Traffic is even off 10% from June levels, ahead of the clunker kickoff on July 27.

Autoguide reported that Ford had 5 of the 10 cars on the Clunkers list, and the 84% of the vehicles traded in were Trucks/SUV's

Eight of the top 10 new cars purchased through the program came from Honda, Hyundai, Nissan and Toyota, which claimed the top spot with its Corolla. The Corolla, Honda Civic and Ford Focus are manufactured in the United States.

By contrast, all of the top 10 clunkers turned in were made by a Detroit company, with the four-wheel-drive Ford Explorer SUV, Ford F-150 pickup and the four-wheel-drive Jeep Grand Cherokee taking the top three spots

A suspect in a vandalism at the Colorado Democratic headquarters was once a paid campaign worker for a Democratic candidate for the Legislature, according to public records.Maurice Schwenkler, 24, was arrested in Denver Tuesday on a charge of criminal mischief after windows were smashed at Democratic offices.

Many of the windows displayed posters supporting health care reform, and (democratic) party officials called it political vandalism.The Denver Post reported Wednesday that Schwenkler was also arrested in St. Paul, Minn., on the last day of the 2008 Republican convention on a charge of unlawful assembly.

No details of that arrest or Schwenkler's activities at the time were immediately available.There was no phone number listed for Schwenkler and it wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.The Post reported Schwenkler was paid $500 in November 2008 to walk door to door in support of Democrat Mollie Cullom, a candidate for the state House from Centennial.

Democrats agree on a health care reform bill that is opposed by all Republicans in Congress, 24% of voters nationwide say the Democrats should pass that bill.

But a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 58% believe the Democrats should change the bill to win support from "a reasonable number of Republicans." Nineteen percent (19%) are not sure what congressional Democrats should do.

Republican voters overwhelmingly think the bill should be changed, and so do 62% of those not affiliated with either major political party. However, Democrats are more conflicted. Forty-one percent (41%) of those in the president’s party believe their legislators should pass the bill without any GOP votes, while 34% disagree and think the legislation should be changed to attract Republican support.

Most liberal voters (52%) say that Democrats should pass the legislation without the Republicans. Most moderates (55%) disagree. In its question, Rasmussen Reports did not quantify what constitutes "a reasonable number" of Republican votes.

Republicans picked up 54 House seats and 8 Senate seats, also beating a Speaker of the House Tom Foley for the first time in many years, Republicans also picked up another seat a few months later when Ben Nighthorse Campbell switched parties.

Republicans were moving full steam ahead on their agenda until the Oklahoma City bombing and the Government shut down changed the dynamic of the electorate, Democrats were successful in blaming the incident on the "extreme right wing" with help from their willing accomplices in the press.

A wounded Clinton made his way back when the Government was shut down in 1995, and on television, some of those federal workers that were furloughed suddenly had a camera and a microphone in front of them, all of them by the way received their back pay. Clinton was seen as the one protecting the little guy from those rascally Republicans..

Attorney General Eric Holder has asked federal prosecutor John Durham to examine whether CIA interrogations of suspected terrorists were illegal, the Justice Department announced Monday. President Obama wants the FBI to question terror suspects from now on, sources say.

The move came as senior administration officials said President Obama had OK'd a special interrogation unit to be housed within the FBI, and as a redacted CIA inspector general's report on interrogation methods was made public for the first time.

Holder said he reached his decision to expand Durham's mandate after examining reports from the Justice Department's Office of Professional Responsibility as well as a classified version of the 2004 CIA inspector general's report into questionable interrogation techniques, among other documents. "As a result of my analysis of all of this material, I have concluded that the information known to me warrants opening a preliminary review into whether federal laws were violated in connection with the interrogation of specific detainees at overseas locations," Holder said in a written statement.

Notice the word "threatened." The people who we are interrogating behead their victims and hold them up to the camera, our officials "threatened" the detainees, which is much, much worse to a liberal..

A "profanity-laced screaming match" at the White House involving CIA Director Leon Panetta, and the expected release today of another damning internal investigation, has administration officials worrying about the direction of its newly-appoint intelligence team, current and former senior intelligence officials tell ABC News.com.

Amid reports that Panetta hadthreatened to quit just seven months after taking over at the spy agency, otherinsiders tell ABCNews.com that senior White House staff members are alreadydiscussing a possible shake-up of top national security officials.
A White House spokesperson, Denis McDonough, said reports that Panetta had threatened toquit and that the White House was seeking a replacement were "inaccurate."

According to intelligence officials, Panetta erupted in a tirade last month during a meeting with a senior White House staff member. Panetta was reportedly upset over plans by Attorney General Eric Holder to open a criminal investigation of allegations that CIA officers broke the law in carrying out certain interrogation techniques that President Obama has termed "torture"


When it says he erupted in a tirade "with senior White House staff member," I'd have to think there's a good chance it was Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel
